Common Macro Tracking Mistakes
Accurately tracking Macros might be the most critical part of building a sustainably healthy lifestyle. Going to the gym and building strength is wonderful, but getting a handle on what you are consuming is a critical part of being the best version of yourself. I happily provide you the framework and the goals, but only you can actually do the tracking. Easier said than done, I know, but like any habit, once you get the hang of it the process becomes more natural and intuitive.
That said, there are a lot of common mistakes people make with their tracking. I wanted to link to this excellent article highlighting six common mistakes people make with their MACROS tracking.
I encourage you to read the whole piece, because I agree with all of the challenges she lists, but here are a few corresponding thoughts.
Don’t let great be the enemy of good. You are not going to track everything perfectly, especially when you get started. It takes practice and commitment, but don’t let that stop you from starting. Doing your best to keep tabs on what you’re eating, especially as you start out will get you on the right track, and will also give you a picture of where you can improve (both in tracking and in eating). Just start, and stick with it — the other stuff will come along.
Find what works for you. These go hand-in-hand but I find many of the tips and tricks you see from coaches can be overwhelming and stressful. The goal is to build healthy habits and decrease the stress associated with being dissatisfied physically. If you’re stressing about tracking, we can work together to explore ways or strategies for tracking that are easier to…digest.
